John Mindermann’s thirty-year career as a police officer and FBI Special Agent pitted him against a crime panorama thieves, violent thugs, murderous predators, and a US president. As a street cop with the SFPD, he patrolled San Francisco’s roughest beats. In the FBI, he was a firearms and defensive tactics instructor, and leader of the first Washington, DC, FBI SWAT Team. At Quantico’s Behavioral Science Unit, he specialized in violence avoidance, creating and teaching the Crisis Intervention and Police Stress programs. He has a BS from San Francisco State University and an MS from American University.

John is a native San Franciscan with a B.S. & M.S. in Criminal Justice. He served as a street patrol police officer earning 5 meritorious awards & 40+ commendations & created an instructional course in best practices.

A random weekend duty assignment changed the course of not only Special Agent Mindermann’s life, but American History.

The late 60’s found Mindermann in Washington, D.C. as an FBI Special Agent conducting key interviews in the Watergate case, investigating a variety of criminal cases, apprehending felons & leading a SWAT team. He spent six and a half years in the FBI’s Quantico Behavioral Science Unit creating, teaching and researching crisis intervention & police stress. He was an exchange instructor to the British National Police College & was the Bureau’s representative to the First Tokyo International Asian Organized Crime conference. He reoriented FBI organized crime efforts focusing on emerging Asian violators & working with local police departments targeted violent street narcotic gangsters.

He is an author, speaker, has testified in Federal court as an expert in police use of force cases, commentated for the N.Y Times, Washington Post & MSNBC. He is currently studying police shootings.
